Accessibility at the Pyramids

Information for visitors with disabilities and mobility challenges. Plan your visit to this ancient, rugged site.

Visiting an ancient desert archaeological site like the Giza Plateau presents challenges for visitors with mobility issues. However, recent improvements have made parts of the site more accessible. This page provides practical information to help you plan. For details on discounted entry, see our free & reduced tickets page.

Terrain and Pathways

The Giza Plateau is a large, open-air site with mostly sandy and uneven terrain. While there are paved roads that vehicles use to transport visitors between key points (like the pyramids and the Sphinx), the areas immediately surrounding the monuments are difficult to navigate with a wheelchair or walker. Some areas, like the viewing platform for the Sphinx, have ramps and are more accessible.

Pyramid Interiors

The interiors of all pyramids are inaccessible to wheelchair users. Entry involves climbing steep, narrow passages with stairs and low ceilings, which is challenging even for able-bodied visitors.

Transportation

The best way for visitors with mobility issues to explore the site is by hiring a private, accessible vehicle with a driver and guide. This allows you to be driven to the main viewpoints and get as close as possible to the monuments without having to navigate the difficult terrain on foot.
