Food and Drinks at the Pyramids

Dining options with a view. From on-site lounges to nearby local eateries, here’s where to eat and drink during your visit.

Exploring the vast Giza Plateau can work up an appetite. While options inside the complex are limited, there are some excellent choices both on-site and just outside the gates. It's always a good idea to carry water with you. For more tips, see our visitors guide.

Where to Eat and Drink

Inside the Complex

The main option inside the paid area is the 9 Pyramids Lounge, which offers incredible panoramic views of the pyramids. It serves light meals, snacks, and beverages. There are also smaller kiosks selling water and soft drinks near the main entrances and the Sphinx. Prices are higher than outside the complex.

Just Outside the Gates

The area surrounding the pyramids is filled with restaurants catering to tourists. You can find everything from international fast-food chains to local Egyptian restaurants. Be cautious of places that don't display prices clearly. For a reliable meal, consider the restaurants inside nearby hotels like the Marriott Mena House.

What to Bring

It is highly advisable to bring at least one large bottle of water per person, especially during the hotter months. While you can buy drinks inside, having your own is convenient and cheaper. Bringing light snacks like granola bars or fruit is also a good idea to keep your energy up while exploring the vast site.

Experience Local Flavors

For an authentic taste of Egypt, venture a little further from the main tourist strip. Ask your guide or a local for recommendations on where to find classic dishes like Koshari (a mix of rice, lentils, and pasta with a spicy tomato sauce), Ful Medames (stewed fava beans), or delicious grilled kebabs.

Trying the local cuisine is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture. Just be sure to choose busy, clean-looking establishments to ensure food safety. Enjoying a mint tea while looking out at the pyramids is an experience you won't soon forget.
